Antioxidants

The benefits of antioxidants for anti-aging are well-known and extensively researched. They help to protect cells from damage by free radicals, which are molecules that can cause inflammation and cell death. Antioxidants also help to keep skin healthy and free from wrinkles and age spots.

The antioxidant properties of fruits and vegetables have been well documented, but what about supplements? A study published in the journal “Cell Metabolism” in January suggests that antioxidant supplements may help to prevent the effects of aging.

The study, which was conducted by researchers at the University of South Wales in Australia, looked at the effects of antioxidant supplements on the lifespan of mice. The mice were divided into three groups: a control group, a group that received a placebo supplement, and a group that received a supplement containing a combination of vitamins C and E.

The researchers found that the mice in the group that received the antioxidant supplement lived significantly longer than the mice in the other two groups. The mice in the control group and the group that received the placebo supplement died at the same rate, while the mice in the group that received the antioxidant supplement had a 50% lower death rate.

The researchers say that the antioxidant properties of the supplement may have played a role in the increased lifespan. They say that the study “provides the first evidence that antioxidant supplements can extend lifespan in a mouse model of accelerated aging.”

The study has some limitations, including the fact that the mice in the study were not humanized and that the study was not designed to determine whether antioxidant supplements can prevent the effects of aging in humans. However, the study provides evidence that antioxidant supplements may help to prevent the effects of aging in mice.
